Something mysterious is happening in Hamtramck.
Mara MacDonald of WDIV reports that Police Chief Max Garbarino was escorted out of the department Friday and told to turn in his badge, computer, flash drive and car while a secret investigation is underway.
WDIV reports that Garbarino, who is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, said in a phone conversation he had no idea what the probe is about.
Ditto for Hamtramck Mayor Karen Majewski, who told WDIV:
"This was a complete surprise to me. I had seen Chief Garbarino in the morning and had no inkling at all this was coming down."
Sources told Local 4 the investigation centers around missing police documentation.
