“I do a lot of announcements, but this is a really big one,” Prime Minister Stephen Harper told a packed room at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Windsor Friday.
You know it's a big deal when the prime minister comes to town. The bridge is a very big deal.
Anne Jarvis writes that this bridge needs a name to match the occasion. The Ambassador Bridge is just called “the bridge.” But now, there will be two bridges, so we can’t say, “I’m taking the bridge.”
Which bridge?
Canadians call it the Detroit River International Crossing. That’s accurate, but not momentous. The U.S. calls it the New International Trade Crossing or NITC. Well, it will be “new” for a while. After a while, it won’t be new. And you don’t want to call it “the NIT” for short. Nits are eggs that hatch into lice, and if you’re the parent of a school-age child, you never want to hear that word.
