While unveiling details of his five-point plan to reduce crime by 50 percent, mayoral candidate Benny Napoleon added a little levity to the presentation Tuesday night at a church in northwest Detroit.

Inserted in his slide show was a photo of Sheriff Andy Taylor and deputy Barney Fife from the Andy Griffith Show with the words "Community Policing" and "Stopping Crime in Due Time."

Sheriff Napoleon assured the crowd he the two guys weren't part of his plan to have one cop per square mile in Detroit to promote community policing.

"You won't get these two guys in your square mile, I promise you," Napoleon said to the crowd, which responded in laughter.

Good to know.

Now,  if only Napoleon can bring down the crime rate in Detroit to what it was in the fictional TV town, Mayberry, N.C.  Seems the biggest crime there was Floyd the Barber gossiping about everyone in town.

If only, that were Detroit's biggest challenge.
