Let's face it, the Renaissance Center is just one of those odd ducks of a building -- an enigma that could use something to spice up the place. So, this latest news can't hurt.
A Minnesota-based chain, Granite City Food & Brewery Ltd., plans to open there next October, Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business reports.
The downtown Detroit restaurant will have 16,000 square feet of space inside the region’s largest office complex and a 1,000-square-foot outdoor patio facing Jefferson Avenue. It will employ 200-250 full- and part-time employees and seat more than 450 inside and another 175 diners outside. Construction is expected to begin in January, and the build-out is estimated at $9 million.
The chain already has a place in Troy and is planning to open one in Northville Park Place.
The company's website says: "We brew our own beer in-house, seriously." The menu includes vodka mussels; Asian glazed shrimp; salads, steaks, fish tacos and grilled salmon.
