West Bloomfield police are investigating an attempted break-in by people posing as FBI agents, the third time in the past month that gun-wielding desperadoes across suburban Detroit claimed to be from federal law enforcement agencies.
The incidents are similar but it is uncertain if they are connected.
In the most recent incident, officers were called to a home in the 5000 block of West Bloomfield Lake about 7:45 p.m. Thursday. A resident said two men and a woman armed with black semi-automatic handguns and identifying themselves as FBI agents had tried to enter. They fled when the homeowner told them police were on their way.
On May 6, three men wearing black T-shirts emblazoned with "FBI" were let into in a home in the 37000 block of Hacker in Sterling Heights at 5:45 a.m. after saying they were looking for a relative of the homeowner who hadn't lived at the home for a few years. They eventually fled.
On April 28, also in Sterling Heights, two men entered a house in the 3000 block of Cherry Creek Lane at 6:45 a.m. after telling the homeowner they were agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. They took cash, a handgun and cell phones, police said.
