Detroit Police on Sunday night said they have taken a new "person of interest" into custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of Samantha Woll, the president of the downtown Detroit synangogue.

"DPD can confirm that a person of interest has been taken into custody in furtherance of the investigation into the murder of Samantha Woll, " the department said in a statement. "In an effort to ensure the integrity of this ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time. Additional information will be released in the near future."

The Detroit News, which first reported on the arrest, reports that the suspect appears to have been a stranger to Woll.

Earlier in the investigation, police arrested her former boyfriend, but shortly after released him without charges.

No official charges have been announced in this latest arrest. Police can normally hold someone for 48 hours without charging them

Police, according to the News, repeated Sunday as to what they've been saying all along, that the murder was not a hate crime related to antisemitism. Immediately after the stabbing, people began speculating that it may have been the result of the Israel-Hamas war.

In mid-November, Crime Stoppers of Michigan offered a $15,000 reward for information in the fatal stabbing on Oct. 21 of Woll, who was president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Detroit.

The reward came nearly a week after police released her ex-boyfriend, who attended the synagogue and was seen there nearly a week after the murder for a Friday night service.
