Since the Parkland, Fla., high school shootings seven weeks ago, there have been numerous threats of violence by teens. Sometimes it's tough to tell whether they're real.
This one has a twist.
A 14-year-old Port Huron boy was arrested late last month after an Instagram follower of New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman messaged the athlete about a worrisome comment on his page.
“Dude, there is a kid in your comment section says he s going to shoot up a school. I think you should alert the authority," said the heads-up, The New York Times reports.
Edelman, who was in Texas, notified his assistant in Boston, Shannen Moen, who looked through the hundreds of comments that followed Edelman’s most recent post on Instagram. She found the alarming message -- “I’m going to shoot my school up watch the news" -- and notified Boston Police.
The threat was tracked down to a 14-year-old Central Middle School student in Port Huron. Police say he admitted posting the threat and was arrested. The teen is charged with false report of a threat of terrorism.
Two rifles belonging to the boy's grandfather were found in the home, according to police.
The youth remains in the juvenile center in Macomb County, according to the Times Herald in his city.
