If there was any question whether Amor Fhouti has remorse about stabbing a police officer at the Flint airport last month, his behavior Wednesday answered that.
The 49-year-old Tunisian national who lives in Montreal, made a brief appearance in U.S. District Court in Flint, defiantly chanting “Allahu Akbar” five times while shuffling into the courtroom, reports Robert Snell of The Detroit News. The Arabic chant means "God is Great" or "Allah is the Greatest."
The feds indicted Fhouti Wednesday after initially charging him on June 21 with a criminal complaint hours after his arrest. On Wednesday, he was in court to face the charges in the new indictment.
He's not accused of terrorism. Last month, he was initially charged with committing an act of violence at an airport. The indictment added a charge of using a dangerous weapon to interfere with airport security.
Terrorism is much harder to prove than charges related to a physical attack.
The airport officer, Lt. Jeff Neville, is out of the hospital and appeared in the Fourth of July Parade on Tuesday in Fenton.
