It frankly comes as no surprise.

The Detroit Historic District Commission voted 3-1 Wednesday evening to approve plans to tear down the vacant Park Avenue Hotel, which was built in 1924 and was once considered a lavish place to stay, Joe Guillen of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Now it's in the way of plans to build a loading dock for the new Red Wings arenas. A demolition permit could be issued within days.

The neighboring hotel, the vacant Eddystone Hotel, is just outside the boundary and will be redeveloped.
