Covid-19 vaccinations expand at Meijer pharmacies, which start vaccine clinics statewide this week and plan to give up to 25,000 doses by week's end for those who're at least 65.

Advance sign-ups and appointments are needed here, or text “COVID” to 75049. Registering in person at stores is another method.

People who registered earlier began getting text invitations today to pick a time at the Detroit store on Woodward at 8 Mile Road and other branches.

The Grand Rapids-based chain, which has about 125 stores in Michigan, says in an announcement:

As a CDC-approved partner, the Meijer pharmacy has already begun administering and will continue to administer free Covid-19 vaccinations as they become available to us. ...

Since its first clinic on Jan. 15, the retailer has administered more than 20,000 doses in Michigan and more than 30,000 doses overall, primarily to seniors 65 and older. This week's aggressive vaccine schedule is possible through partnerships with several counties and cities in Michigan, along with doses received from the State of Michigan and the Centers for Disease Control. ...

The vaccine clinics conducted by Meijer are not open to walk-ups. ... Meijer encourages anyone interested in receiving the vaccine to register, as the retailer intends to eventually offer the vaccine to all Michiganders eligible ... in the coming weeks and months.

After the first shot, recipients will be booked for a second dose in three weeks.
