Michigan native and gun advocate Ted Nugent will attend the State of the Union address on Tuesday as a guest of a Republican congressman from Texas, David Shepardson reports for The Detroit News.
Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, said he has invited the aging rock-n-roller known as the Motor City Madman to President Barack Obama's annual address. Stockman is an ardent pro-gun supporter and introduced legislation last month to end all federal gun-free zones around schools and threatened to file impeachment legislation against Obama for pushing gun control.
"I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama," Stockman said. "After the address I'm sure Ted will have plenty to say."
Nugent is known as much for his inflammatory rhetoric as his music and guns. The Secret Service visited him last year after he said, "if Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year."
No action was taken.
Many Democrats are hosting gun violence victims to the 9 p.m. speech, and Obama has invited the parents of a teenager who was slain in Chicago a week after performing at last month's inauguration, according to The Hill, a Washington newspaper.
Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who was seriously wounded in a mass shooting at a constituent event two years ago, is also scheduled to attend.
