Toronto-based Bell Media has eliminated its daytime on-air staff on Alternative “89X” (CIMX-FM) and closed its Detroit sales office as part of a restructuring, reports RadioInsight.  The station promotes itself as "the new rock alternative."

The Detroit sales office represented Windsor radio stations 89X, The River, Memories 580 and AM 800. Bell Media said in a statement that the stations will continue to carry a Detroit signal.

On-air cuts include morning hosts Cal Cagno and Gillian Reilly, midday hosts Phil “PK” Kukawinski, afternoon host Reed Petitpren. Only night host Mark McKenzie remains from the on-air staff.

Bell is eliminating the Detroit sales office to focus on the Canadian side, radio insight reports.

Bell Media Director of Corporate Communications Matthew Garrow states in a release:

The restructuring is a response to the challenges we and other Canadian media companies are facing on multiple fronts: changing broadcast technologies and growing international competition, a tough advertising market, and ongoing regulatory pressure.”
