Michigan Republicans are drawing the line during a lame duck session rife with proposed power grabs: They appear unwilling to pass a bill that strips campaign oversight responsibilities from incoming Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

The Detroit News reports there's a lack of support for the bill in a state House committee set to meet today. The bill, which passed the Senate, would shift campaign oversight from Benson to a new political commission.

The bill is one of several that would have stripped powers from incoming top-ticket Democrats elected in November. Another one of those controversial bills would undercut incoming Attorney General Dana Nessel by allowing the Legislature, which will remain under GOP control, to intervene in lawsuits involving the state. That bill, the News reports, has passed the House and is awaiting action in the full Senate.

Two days remain in the lame duck session.
