The owners of three dogs in River Rouge-- one which froze overnight in the cold -- will be charged with animal cruelty and neglect, WDIV reports.

Ken Haddad of WDIV reports that two small poodle mixes were able to survive outside the in Antarctica-like weather by going to the underside of a porch. The third dog, a pitbull was chained in the yard and did not survive. The dogs have been taken to the River Rouge Animal Shelter and from there to PAWS of Michigan, WDIV reports.

"We found a dead pit bull that had been, basically, locked away in a pen in the backyard. We found two other small breed white dogs that had found enough shelter to survive this,"Dave McMurtrie, a volunteer with the shelter told Fox2.

Fox2 reported that the owners had gone to Mexico and said someone was supposed to take care of the dogs in their absence.
