An Oakland County Circuit judge on Thursday ruled that Oxford High shooter Ethan Crumbley, 15, will stay in the county jail instead of going to a juvenile facility.
"The court has not been presented with any new information to disturb its March 1 order,” said Judge Kwame Rowe during a Zoom hearing.
Rowe said the matter would be reviewed again at an April 21 hearing. Crumbley is charged as an adult with four counts of first-degree murder.
At the same time, court-appointed guardian Deborah McKelvy talked about educational options, including virtual classes. Another possibility would be for Crumbley to work on his GED to get a high school dimploma, followed by the possibility of community college courses.
She took exception to the prosecution's claim that the parents, Jennifer and James Crumbley, are responsible for their son's education. Both parents are behind bars awaiting trial on involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shootings.
“It’s no longer the parent’s responsibility," she insisted.
Ethan Crumbley is charged in the Nov. 30 shooting at his north Oakland County school that left four students dead and six others and a teacher wounded.
