Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert's appetite for gobbling up more buildings continues in 2016.
Three buildings near Corktown totaling almost 180,000 square feet are sold to an entity with ties to Dan Gilbert’s Bedrock Real Estate Services LLC, Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business writes.
The buildings are at 1700 W. Fort St. and 1681-1749 W. Lafayette Blvd., Crain's reports. The listing price was $5.95 million. The selling price was not disclosed.
The properties "will provide key mixed-use space in the flourishing Corktown neighborhood, which continues to attract unique and innovative entrepreneurial companies, artists and cool, new restaurants and living spaces," Bedrock says in a statement quoted by Crain's.
The Fort Street site, incidentally is 1.1 mile from a building listed for $6.25 million by Galapagos Art Space, a creative nonprofit enterprise moving here from Brooklyn. That effort to sell a property it purchased two years ago, first reported by Pinho, provoked criticism in Metro Times and social media posts last Thursday, as we report and comment on here.
