Is Free Press columnist Brian Dickerson pulling our legs with his piece today, suggesting there are crazier ideas than that of President Trump using his newfound pardon power on disgraced former Detrot Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick?
Hard to tell. He lays out a case that sounds...kinda serious? A few reasons to consider, Dickerson says:
- It would result in chaos, one of the president's favorite things;
- It would lend credence to KK's claim he was railroaded by the FBI, Trump's least-favorite federal agency;
- It would be yet another rebuke to Barack Obama, who treated Kilpatrick like radioactive waste;
And "finally, reuniting Kilpatrick with his spouse and children would allow a president suspected of callous indifference to minority families to claim that he is a man of compassion, moved by a broken family's plight to ignore the political hazards of a controversial pardon."
Yeah, yeah, that's crazy talk. But crazier things have happened in this White House, probably just this week. Kim Kardashian's clemency plea on behalf Alice Marie Johnson was successful. Read that last sentence aloud a few times. Nothing is impossible.
