Michael Skupin, who twice appeared on CBS's Survivor, was convicted Friday in Oakland County Circuit Court of four of six counts of child pornography, the Michigan Attorney General's Office said.
Skupin, 54, of Farmington Hills, was charged with 11 counts of child pornography and racketeering relating to an alleged Ponzi scheme. The financial part of the case will be tried separately in a trial slated for next week.
“The children in these videos and images were exploited, and each time the images were shared and viewed continued their suffering,” Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said in a statement. “My hope is that today’s conviction will bring some closure to the families and the children that are victims in this case.”
While investigators were looking into allegations that Skupin ripped off investors, they found what they say were child porn images on his laptop.
Skupin, who is the father of seven children, maintained his innocence earlier this year in a statement to People magazine and said multiple people used his computer. He has also denied wrongdoing in the financial case.
