Detroit policed raided two locations Thursday, arresting 62 people. Thirty-nine arrests were felonies and 23 were misdemeanors, according to Detroit police.
About 300 law enforcement officers from Detroit police, Macomb and Wayne County police, the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protections visited two locations -- Laing Street off Moross on Detroit's east side and an unspecified location in the 8th precinct on Detroit's west side.
Police officers prepared 14 search warrants prior to the raid and had arrest warrants for 100 people associated with the areas.
The Detroit News reports:
Laing Street is one of the more active narcotics locations on the east side, Craig said Thursday at the scene. Residents said it’s hard to even walk down the street without being approached to buy drugs.
The Detroit Free Press adds that the east side location had 46 shootings and 70 narcotics complaints in 2013. The west side location had "26 shooting victims in 2013."
"Operation Restore Order" is the fourth "highly publicized raid." Police conducted large-scale arrests at the Colony Arms Apartments on E. Jefferson in November and the Martin Luther King apartments on Chene and Lafayette in December.
This was "by far the most successful," according to a statement from Detroit police Friday. It continued, "We have made a vow to clean up our city streets for the good people of this city and this most recent raid is just another stride towards making good on that promise."
