The very popular Bucharest Grill, known for its great marinated meats and shawarma sandwiches, has grown from one to three locations in Detroit.
Now the restaurant is getting booted from its original spot at 2040 Park Ave. inside the Park Avenue Bar in downtown Detroit near Comerica Park and the Fox Theatre, Randy Wimbley of Fox 2 reports.
The grill became too successful and too big for the spot, says landlord Jerry Bellanger. He has other plans for the small spot, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Bucharest owner Bogdan Tarasov tells Fox 2: "We're not leaving by choice." He'll move from the downtown spot around February to Jefferson and Chene and take up part of Lucky's Pub & Grille. Parking is free around there, compared to parking around Bucharest that can cost upwards of $20 or more during sporting events or concerts.
Bucharest also has locations at 1623 Michigan Ave, in Corktown and 110 Piquette St, in the Midtown/New Center area.
The downtown flagship had long been a destination for baseball and football fans and concertgoers.
