On weekends It was pretty common to see people waiting for a table outside of Mae’s, a popular 42-seat diner on Woodward Avenue in Pleasant Ridge.
Well, the joint closed after owner Jessica Lundgren sold the breakfast, lunch, and brunch spot to Valter and Elda Xhomaqi, who have owned the longstanding Whistle Stop Restaurant and Bakery in Birmingham for three years (it’s been there for 50), writes Melody Baetens of the Detroit News. The couple also owns the Double EE Restaurant in Ferndale, the News notes.
The News now reports that the restaurant could reopen as soon as next week.
Elda Xhomaqi tells the Detroit News that the eatery is closed for remodeling and will keep much of the menu, but add some items that are popular at the Whistle Stop, like the cinnamon roll French toast and fresh pies.
