Really now, where else would we expect film crews to shoot a "a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future" besides the Detroit area?

Maybe the state's $1.5 million in tax credits are just a side perk for producers of a new TV "12 Monkeys."

Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe and  Brad Pitt were in the "12 Monkeys" film 18 years ago.

Its pilot episode will be shot in metro Detroit next year, Chris Gautz reports at Crain's.

"12 Monkeys," on the Syfy Network, is an adaptation of the 1995 science fiction film of the same name.

The Michigan Film Office announced Tuesday that taxpayers will contribute $1.5 million to the project, which is projected to hire 150 workers in the state. .

The state's news release says nothing about when and where scenes will be filmed, nor whether additional episodes might be set here if the series goes ahead.

It does say the time-spanning protagonist is "on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race."

Terry Gilliam directed Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt and Madeleine Stowe in the movie that inspires this project .
