A constant flow of presidential and vice presidential candidates into Michigan has required a big use of law enforcement in the state to work the events, manage traffic and provide protection.

The Detroit Free Press reports that Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump and their running mates have made 33 stops in Michigan since February. John Wisely of the Freep notes that it comes to about one every eight days, not counting the four stops President Joe Biden made before exiting the race.

Plus, Harris and Trump will make five more stops in Michigan on Friday.

The visits often require the services of Michigan State Police, local departments, sheriff's departments and the Secret Service.  The campaigns do not reimburse those costs, the Freep reports.

The Freep reports by late last month, Kent County, which includes Grand Rapids, had incurred more than $300,000 in expenses, and uses contingency funds and overtime to cover the costs, according to  Assistant County Administrator Lori Latham.

Wayne County Sheriff's Department was unable to provide figures.
