Ann Arbor, known for its liberalism and progressiveness, is opting for reducing its deer population with sharpshooters.
After much debate and studies, the Ann Arbor City Council voted around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday , 8-1, in favor of a plan to hire sharpshooters to kill deer, WDIV reports. The killings will begin this winter with 100 deer.
Nick Monacelli of WDIV reports that officials decided the following winter to turn to deer fertility methods to control the population some complain is spiraling out of control.
The vote is the result of complaints from residents about the growing deer population damaging landscape and being involved in car crashes.
WDIV reports that the culls this winter will be carried out at night by trained shooters.
Deer will be lured to bait, and sharpshooters plan to kill each deer with one shot to the head, WDIV reports.
