Prominent criminal defense attorney and Mumford High grad Steve Fishman says he's not trying to drum up new clients.

He just wants to say thanks to the city of Detroit.

And what better way than a big billboard.

WWJ reports that Fishman posted a billboard on the Lodge Freeway and 7 Mle Road that says:

“Thank you, Detroit, for 40 great years, Steve Fishman, Mumford ’66.” Fishman went to Mumford and played basketball at the University of Michigan.

Fishman told WWJ Newsradio 950′s Marie Osborne that it's not an advertisement. It doesn't say he's an attorney and it has no phone number.

“I wanted to do something that would thank the city of Detroit, the Detroit Public Schools, and the citizens of Detroit for providing me the opportunity to make a success of myself,” he said.

“I don’t think in my wildest dreams, when I entered Mumford High School in 1963, that I would have thought I would have the career I’ve had, and I wanted to thank everyone,” he said.
