Newly-minted Congress member Rashida Tlaib won't be getting any Christmas invite to the White House this year.
Then again, if she had her way, President Donald Trump won't be occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue by Christmas.
Tlaib said Wednesday she plans to file a resolution this month to start impeachment proceedings against Trump, Melissa Nann Burke of The Detroit News reports. She refers to him as "dangerous to our American democracy." The resolution calls on the House Judiciary Committee to investigate grounds for Trump's impeachment.
"I can't wait to be able to file this resolution because I think a transparent and open investigation into the president's dealings is important," Tlaib said, surrounded by 20 impeachment activists in her Capitol Hill office.
In a statement, she added:
"This president continues to violate the Constitution and perform impeachable actions while in the Oval Office.
"From campaign finance violations, violating the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, to obstruction of justice, his conduct has created a constitutional crisis that we must confront now. "Congress must be a check on this President and we must act swiftly."
