The Detroit Firemen’s Fund has issued a challenge to firefighters and non-firefighters to take part in saving a once-lovely Detroit home and appear on the DIY Network’s television show "Rehab Addict" with local-girl-made-good Nicole Curtis.

Curtis is rehabbing a partially burned, 1929 Tudor-style home in southwest Detroit.
Firemen’s Fund officials heard of the project from a Detroit firefighter stationed in the area and stepped up when they heard of the need for volunteers. With assistance from DFDLegacy.com, they are putting out the a challenge to Detroit firefighters, surrounding fire departments, and anyone else who wants to get involved.
The Fund will provide drinking water and lunch for the volunteers.
The project takes place Thursday and Friday. Crews will be working and filming at the house, located at Campbell and Horatio, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Visit the DFD legacy website for information on what special skills and tools are needed Thursday and Friday.
Curtis, who grew up in Lake Orion and now lives in Minneapolis, has become the popular host of the "Rehab Addict" TV show. She learned of the Detroit house from a neighbor, according to a story in the Detroit News.
The house has zinc windows, original tile in the bathrooms and intricate plaster medallions in the upstairs and downstairs living rooms, reports Maureen Feighan.
"But the house has clearly seen better days. Damaged extensively by the next door fire — which fell on the house — and water damage in the back, Curtis and crew have had to reframe the roof and reshingle it. Every system, electric, plumbing and water, will need to be replaced."
