It isn't that the number of buglers is dwindling. It's because so many veterans are dying, said the Department of Veterans Affairs.
With many veterans in their 80s, about 1,900 die every day, the agency said.
The military employs 500 buglers, but most are busy with their outfits.
Trying to fill the void, an Illinois group called Bugles Across America seeks volunteers from around the country to play at funerals.
