State Rep. Lee Chatfield, 30

Lansing could use some youthful leadership.

So, here we go.

Rep. Lee Chatfield, 30, on Tuesday becomes the youngest state House speaker in more than a century, reports Beth LeBlanc of The Detroit News. 

The former school teacher, coach and father of five takes over a House with a Republican majority of 58-52.

“He’s somebody who’s willing to come to the table. He’s somebody who’s going to compromise if it’s in the best interest of the state,” says the current speaker, Tom Leonard. “But he won’t be pushed around either.”

Leonard ran unsuccessfully this year for state attorney general.
