It hasn't been a perfect season for Tigers ace Justin Verlander, but the latest news may help make up for some bumps along the road.

Fox Sports is reporting that Verlander, 29, will get the nod to start the 83rd All-Star game in Kansas City on Tuesday night.

Verlander, 9-5 with a 2.58 ERA this season, has gotten knocked around a little here and there, but he came up with a one-hitter earlier in the season and is still throwing smoke.

Fox Sports reports that he's on pace this year to lead the majors in strikeouts and innings pitched for the second consecutive year.
