Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders haven't blasted Gov. Rick Snyder for his handling of the Flint water crisis, in contrast to Republican candidates initially.
Now, some Republicans are weigh in -- and not all are critical.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on Sunday on ABC's "This Week," defended Snyder’s response, and said the focus should be on fixing the problem, not "blaming people," according to Chad Livengood of The Detroit News.
Snyder has “taken responsibility. And I admire that,” Bush said. “He’s not saying that it’s someone else’s fault. He's rolling up his sleeves and trying to — trying to deal with this.”
Sen. Ted Cruz was not so kind, telling reporters last week that Flint’s lead-tainted water is “a failure at every level of government.”
Donald Trump is rather neutral, according to Reuters, saying:
“It’s a shame what’s happening in Flint, Michigan. A thing like that shouldn’t happen. ... They’ve got a very difficult problem, and I know the governor’s got a very difficult time going. But you know, I shouldn’t be commenting on Flint.”
Sen. Marco Rubio said Wednesday that the lead poisoning of Flint residents was the result of “a systemic and ugly breakdown at the local and state level,” NBC News reports.
