Ken Neigebauer, a retired Ann Arbor Police officer, was arraigned Tuesday on open murder charges following the death of his wife, who reportedly had ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
Neigebauer, 63, called police Sunday to report he had strangled his wife, 63, in their Pittsfield Charter Township apartment outside Ann Arbor reports Charlie Langton of Fox 2.
Neigebauer retired from the force in 2004 and has no criminal record.
"Damn, there's another side. I don't know. I have no idea why" he did this, says Gary Oxender, a friend and former Ann Arbor police officer.
