Developers MagicPlus LLC and Redico unveiled the long-awaited revised edition of their $200M redevelopment plan for the 157-acre State Fairgrounds site on Wednesday night at a public meeting. The plan includes residential and commercial development, Curbed Detroit reports.
Paul Beshouri of Curbed Detroit writes that the original plan was "widely criticized as an outdated, auto-centric strip mall mess. " The MagicPlus company belongs to former NBA star Earvin "Magic" Johnson.
Curbed writes:
Those hoping for a major departure from the first design will be disappointed. The new one is essentially a prettier-looking version of the original plan, but with the apartments, senior housing, and commercial space moved around just a little bit.
The plan includes 1-2 bedroom townhouses and apartments, an 8-10 screen movie theater, retail including clothing stores and local breweries, green space and a satellite campus for Wayne County Community College.
