Justin Verlander

Justin Verlander, 33, who sparkled in the 2016 season, has been selected as Tiger of The Year by the Detroit Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, The Detroit News reports.

It's the third time he gets this award. 

Verlander earned nine of a possible 22 first-place votes, the News reports. Ian Kinsler received eight first-place votes, Miguel Cabrera had four and Michael Fulmer, one.,

Verlander had a 16-9 record with a 3.04 ERA (227⅔ innings with 27 earned runs). He led the American League with 254 strikeouts and a 1.00 WHIP, The News says.
