Freep columnist Rochelle Riley writes that Gov. Rick Snyder walks a tightrope when it comes to dealing with Detroit. She writes:

Like most governors, has had to walk a fine political line since being elected: ensuring that Detroit does well, while assuring the rest of the state that Detroit isn't more important than their cities. But, he reiterated, it should be important to everyone.

Snyder didn't campaign with vows to save Detroit., Riley notes.

Because whether or not he ran as the governor who would save Detroit, he now is the governor who will either save it -- or fail.

And Rick Snyder isn't the type of guy who likes to fail.
