Local sports fans haven't always had a lot to celebrate in recent years. But Saturday brought a triple play, a very good day.

The Michigan Wolverines were victorious in San Antonio, beating Loyola Chicago 69-57 to move on to the finals on Monday night. The lowly Red Wings beat the Ottawa Senators 2-0 at Little Caesars Arena and the Detroit Pistons beat the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden by a score of 115-109.

Granted, the Knicks, at 27-50, have a worse record than the Pistons, who are 36-40. The same goes for the Ottawa Senators, who at 27-40-11, have a worse record than the Red Wings' 30-38-11.

Still, at this stage of the game with the Pistons and Red Wings going nowhere, a victory is a victory.

The Tigers were rained out for the second time this week.

The Wolverines play Villanova at 9:20 p.m. Monday. The initial Las Vegas odds favor Villanova by 6 1/2 points.
