Joe Dumars was a first rate player and a gentlemen as well on a team that didn't have a reputation for being gentlemen.

Then as president of the Pistons, he seemed to have the magic touch, particularly under the coaching of Larry Brown.

But he had his share of missteps. Bad drafts. And bad trades. Getting Allen Iverson was just a plain bad move. Anyone could have told him that.

Now, Vincent Goodwill of The Detroit News reports what many of us expected: Joe Dumars isn't expected to return next year.

Goodwill reports:

As the Pistons prepare to ride out the last two weeks of the regular season, the sun might be setting on Pistons president Joe Dumars’ reign with the only franchise he’s known.

Dumars has told multiple sources within the NBA that he plans to resign — possibly as soon as this week — after a busy offseason that included the signings of high-priced free agents Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings and led to an underachieving 2013-14 season. The Pistons, who many experts picked to return to the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, are 28-49 and out of playoff contention.

The News comes after a particularly pathetic season. The team even lost to Philly, helping breaking that teams 26 game losing streak.

Joe Dumars is a good man.

But it's time for him to move on.
