Say bye bye to Eminem's childhood home in the 19000 block of Dresden on Detroit's east side.

Frankly, it wasn't much to look at, particularly after it was damaged by fire on Nov. 7.

But it seemed to be getting quite a bit of attention. Detroit has a dearth of real celebrities and Eminem is a big deal.

Then demolition crews showed up today to take what was left, all down. It's history.

Tammy Stables Battaglia and Ann Zaniewsk of the Detroit Free Press reported that a photo of his home originally showed up on Eminem's 2000 album, “The Marshall Mathers LP,” and just recently on the release of “The Marshall Mathers LP 2.”

The house was owned by the Michigan Land Bank, a state program that manages and auctions abandoned and foreclosed properties, the Freep reported.

“It caught on fire after we had put it up for bid and tried to auction the house off,” Mario Morrow, spokesman for the land bank told the Freep. “The house was beyond repair, and it was a safety hazard to the community — to the children, the seniors. The best thing we felt to do was demolish it and expedite the demolition.”

“People were going by taking pictures, trying to stand on the porch,” Morrow said. “We would send an inspector by there three times a day just to make sure that the door was locked, the boards were up. It was becoming a huge burden on manpower.”

Morrow told the Freep the land bank had gotten more than 100 offers to buy the property, but it caught fire before a buyer had been picked. -- A.L.
