Police K-9s usually attack the bad guys.

But this time, the K-9 attacked it's handler -- an Oakland County Sheriff's deputy. The outcome wasn't good.

An Oakland County Sheriff's deputy shot to death his K-9 partner, "Gunner," after the German Shepherd attacked him in the parking lot of veterinarians' office in Davison in Genesee County, WXYZ reported.

The dog had been acting overly aggressive and the deputy had taken him to the vet.

But Gunner wouldn't get out of the car. Finally, the deputy used a protective bite sleeve on his arm -- one used in training -- to get the dog out.

The dog calmed down at first, but then attacked his handler and started biting him on his arm. The dog ignored commands to let go.

WXYZ reported that the deputy was okay, but was admitted to a hospital for treatment and observation.

Gunner had been with the department for five years. -- A.L.
