Tragedy in the news can seem like just another sad story until it hits close to home.
A Macomb County serviceman is among the seven Marines and four soldiers who were killed when a helicopter crashed in the fog during a training mission in the Florida Panhandle Tuesday night, Mitch Hotts of The Macomb Daily writes.
Marcus Bawol, 27, formerly of Warren, is believed to have been in the group that encountered foggy in a nighttime training mission Tuesday evening near Elgin Air Force Base.
He was engaged to Erika Lynn Hipple, formerly of Sterling Heights, and the two planned to marry in October, according to her family.
