Trey Burke's decision to head to the NBA long before he graduates from the University of Michigan will be good for Burke, but not so good for his school.

Free Press columnist Drew Sharp writes:

Burke  leaves gigantic footprints in his wake at Michigan, even bigger than the ones Mateen Cleaves left at Michigan State when he won a national championship in 2000. And the Spartans have come remotely close to another title only once in the 13 years since. U-M coach John Beilein soon will learn what MSU coach Tom Izzo has over time -- replacing the "competitive greatness" of such a seminal program figure will prove impossible.

Sharp takes a swipe at the the concept that top-ranked atheletes should complete their education before heading to the pros.

But it's finally time that the Jurassic Age of Sports accepts that premier athletes go to Michigan and Michigan State for advanced study in football and basketball.
