Republican Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, who had Covid-19 in December, says he won't attend a late September conference that requires guests be vaccinated because he believes his antibodies will be enough to protect him.

From the Free Press:

Shikey said the Detroit Regional Chamber "cowed to political science rather than embrac(ing) actual science" by mandating vaccines to attend the Mackinac Policy Conference. The statement contradicts the results of a recent study that indicates the previously infected who remain unvaccinated are at least twice as likely to get COVID-19 again as someone who is vaccinated.

“It should not be overlooked that this vaccine mandate position is more extreme than the policy of the Grand Hotel, the island’s civic government and the state of Michigan as a whole," Shirkey said in a statement.

Shirkey's spokeswoman cited a study that suggests people infected with Covid may be immune for up to 11 months. The federal government encourages vaccination among those who've already had the disease.

Shirkey is the same guy who called the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol a hoax.
