Should People Pay Fees For Detroit Emergency Services?

 Detroit taxes already are  some of the highest in the nation.

Taxes are supposed to purchase the most basic function of any government — public safety. Yet Detroit is in the process of implementing what it calls cost recovery on those who are deemed to be responsible for police, fire or emergency medical runs.

The Detroit News asks: Shouldn't Detroit's high taxes cover these basic services?

It's not just Detroit residents who would have to pay. Anyone passing through the city who needs police, fire or EMS services could be subject to the fees.
