Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters, like the Senate's 48 other Democrats, are ready for an echo.
They'll soon vote the way they did Feb. 5 last year at the end of Donald Trump's first impeachment trial, when he was acquitted on two counts because there wasn't a two-thirds majority required to convict.
That bar may not be cleared again in a trial starting Tuesday on a single count of inciting insurrection by encouraging backers to storm the Capitol on Jan. 6. At least 17 Republican senators would have to vote with the 50 Democrats, a test expected by early next week after presentation of video evidence and arguments.
Michigan's senators explain why they'll vote to convict:
Stabenow: 'Accountability and justice'
"Our nation experienced a deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol inspired and encouraged by the ... president of the United States. Our country cannot heal and move forward without accountability and justice. When the article of impeachment comes before the Senate, I intend to support removing Donald Trump from office." -- Jan. 13 statement
Peters: 'It needs to be called out'
"The facts are very clear that you had the president of the United States basically inciting an insurrection and an attack on the United States, on the United States Capitol, a violent attack on the United States Capitol. Something that we have not seen a U.S. president ever do. It's simply unacceptable.
"It needs to be called out and the president, the former president now, needs to be held accountable for that behavior and it's important for us to do that.
"This dangerous rhetoric led to violence and an attack on the very citadel of our democracy, the United States Capitol. People died, folks were injured. And I think I speak for all Americans who were watching that happen, as folks were watching that, it wasn’t just an attack on the men and women who work in the Capitol. It was truly an attack on our country, and it was an attack on all Americans." -- Michigan Radio interview, Jan. 27
A congressional delegation colleague in the House tells why she voted for the article of impeachment last month:
I've said it once and I'll say it again: we cannot have unity and healing without accountability and justice.

The Senate must convict Donald Trump for inciting a violent and deadly insurrection. It's time to defend our democracy.
