Former Red Wing Slava Fetisov sat down with WDIV Devin Scillian in advance of the Sochi Olympics and made some startling accusations regarding the 1997 limo crash that left fellow Red Wing Vladimir Konstantinov permanently disabled.

For starters, Fetisov says he believes the limo driver crashed on purpose although he's unsure as to the driver's motive.

He also says that the Wings, by saying  the post-Stanley Cup outing wasn't a team event negatively affected Konstantinov's medical coverage.

The Free Press reached out to longtime Wings exec Jimmy Devellano, who wouldn't comment on the specific charge.

Detroit Free Press: Red Wings senior vice president and former general manager Jimmy Devellano said this morning that he wasn’t aware of Fetisov’s comments and had not seen the video.

“The only thing I know is that Vladdie has done very, very well, when you consider what happened,” Devellano said. “I have seen him many, many times, usually 4-5 times a year in Mr. (Mike) Ilitch’s suite. I know the people that are his caregivers and I think really he’s done remarkable, all things considered. He seems to be a fairly happy guy, considering his state.”

Fetisov is now a Russian politician and played a role in Sochi's winning bid for the 2014 games.
