Perjury isn't always easy to prove. Not only must there be a lie, but proof that the person realized they were lying. Some defenses are that a person's memory was off or they simply dispute the facts.
With that being said, we'll see what happens to Gov. Rick Snyder.
Harvey Hollins, the man Gov. Snyder appointed to handle the Flint Water Crisis, testified earlier this week that Snyder essentially lied to Congress about the Flint water crisis.
Hollins says he told the governor about increasing lead in Flint water months before Snyder told Congress he learned about it, reports Max White, Jodie Heisner, Jim Kiertzner of WXYZ.
The testimony came during the preliminary hearing for Michigan Health and Human Services Director Nick Lyons, who is facing involuntary manslaughter and misconduct in office charges for his alleged role in the water crisis.
Hollins said he told Snyder in July 2015 and August 2015 that there were concerns about increased lead levels in Flint's water. During congressional testimony in March 2016, Snyder testified that he didn't even learn about the dangerous levels of lead in Flint's water system until October 2015, the station reports.
"I told the governor that we're hearing a lot more folks complaining about lead, copper and TTHM (total trihalomenthanes)," Hollins testified.
Deadline Detroit reported last month that state investigators are still looking at Snyder to see if there is criminal wrongdoing on his part in the Flint water crisis.
