In the end, the people who may want Kristina Karamo to remain the state Republican chairwoman are Democrats.

GOP leaders in Oakland and Macomb counties, the second and third largest counties in Michigan, are pressing for her removal, Craig Mauger of the Detroit News reports.

Vance Patrick, chairman of the Oakland County Republican Party, released a letter Monday urging the GOP state committee to oust Karamo, less than a year before the 2024 election. Many wealthy, mainstream Republicans have refrained from donating to the party under Karamo. That's resulted in very lean times for the state party.

Patrick stated in the letter that the state party "has been left in shambles with regard to fundraising and effective staff work," the News reports. Karamo, an Oakland County ressident, was elected by delegates in February as chairwoman.

Karamo, who is an election denier and backed by former President Trump, lost in 2022 in her bid to become secretary of state.

Meanwhile, Mark Forton, chairman of the Macomb County Republican Party, on Monday said he continues to support unseating Karamo, the News reports. He thinks Karamo and other leaders are  "out to destroy the party.”
