There are some added signs of economic recovery in Michigan despite news of a sluggish national economy.

Crain's Detroit Business, citing the National Restaurant Association, reported that statewide employment in the food service industry has increased by 4,600 workers, or about 1.5 percent, since May 2011.

Crains reports that the food service industry employs 374,800 people in Michigan, about 9 percent of the total employment in the state.
