An aggressive auto-theft suspect found his stolen ride immobilized by police, so he jumped into an empty Southfield police car and fled in that.

That move sparked another police chase that ended in a crash in a residential neighborhood.

It all happened Sunday afternoon. Fox 2 Detroit reports police had identified a stolen car near Twelve Mile and Telegraph around 4:30 p.m., stopped it after a pursuit, and then things took a turn:

Police said the driver got out of the stolen car and began to flee on foot. When the officer got out and ran after the suspect, the suspect got into the driver's seat of the patrol car and attempted to flee.

A second patrol car was able to stop the stolen patrol car on Winchester St near Evergreen Rd. The end of the pursuit was caught on Steven Tranchida's home surveillance camera.

"The car spun out right across my front yard," said Tranchida.

Police were finally able to arrest the thief. Tranchida said police then inventoried the guns that had been in the cruiser.

The alleged thief and one officer were checked at an area hospital.
