Karen Spranger
The latest chapter in the saga of Karen Spranger, the former Macomb County clerk removed from office by a judge, opened Wednesday in Warren.
Spranger, who police have been seeking for a while to question in connection with embezzlement allegations, has now been formally charged by the Macomb County prosecutor.

Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith announced Wednesday that Karen Spranger is being charged with larceny, a five-year felony, for allegedly stealing from a 78-year-old woman for whom she was working a caregiver in Warren.
After the bank alerted police to some suspicious activity, Smith said Spranger was spotted on a security video at ATMs withdrawing cash from the woman's bank account.
Smith said more than $1,600 was withdrawn by Spranger over the course of eight days in early January.
